Announcement and Call for Papers

ACTIVE 97 TO BE HELD IN BUDAPEST, HUNGARY ACTIVE 97, the l997 International Symposium on Active Control of Sound and Vibration, will be held at the Technical University of Budapest, in the capital of Hungary from 1997 August 21 to 23. It thus immediately precedes INTER-NOISE 97, the l997 International Congress on Noise Control Engineering, which is also being held in Budapest from 1997 August 25-27.

The symposium is being organized by the Acoustical Commission of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Hungarian Scientific Society for Optics, Acoustics, Motion Pictures and Theatre Technology in cooperation with the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE/USA) and sponsored by the European Acoustics Association (EAA).

In continuation of a series of meetings being held in Blacksburg, Virginia and Newport Beach, California from 1991 to 1995, ACTIVE 97 will be the first international conference on active control in Europe. According to it's predecessors, ACTIVE 97 is planned to present six plenary keynote lectures covering current aspects and latest developments of active noise and vibration control. In addition, approximately l50 technical papers are expected to give a broad overview of current activities and thus enable an intensive exchange of ideas, concepts and results.

The conference chairmen are Fülöp Augusztinovicz and Joachim Scheuren, the technical program chairman is Steve Elliott, proceedings editor Gábor Horváth. The members of the scientific committee: Jiri Tichy (chairman), Alan Curtis, John Ffowcs Williams, Chris Fuller, Dieter Guicking, Hareo Hamada, Colin Hansen, Gérald Mangiante, Phil Nelson, Kam Ng, Peter Sas, Richard Silcox and Hideki Tachibana.

LOCATION, TRAVEL and ACCOMMODATION

Budapest on the both sides of the River Danube is the Capital of Hungary, and, with 2 million inhabitants, is the largest city in the country. Budapest is the centre of Hungarian politics and economics and is certainly the scientific, educational and cultural capital of the region. The city has many historical buildings, museums, thermal baths and interesting tourist attractions. Budapest can be reached by plane, train and by car. The Symposium will be held at the Technical University of Budapest. Near the congress venue, many hotels of various categories can be booked for registered delegates and their families before, during and after the Symposium. Tourists can enjoy Hungarian hospitality: special dishes, wines of the Tokay region, and traditional gypsy music.
